One of my favorite events is the Ribadeo Indiano. In July, the streets of Ribadeo are filled with elegance, recreating the times of Ribadean emigrants returning from America with stories to tell. Put on your period costume and a fancy hat, and stroll through this fascinating historical event featuring vintage cars and music from another era. Perfect for some retro photos!
Patron Saint Festivals: Ribadeo’s Big Week
In September, Ribadeo celebrates its Patron Saint Festivals in honor of Santa María del Campo. For a week, the town is filled with music, parades, and the traditional fireworks on September 7. The traditional characters, Coco and Coca, also parade, ensuring laughter and fun. And if you miss it, you can always return in August for the San Roque festival— the fun in Ribadeo never ends!
Gastronomic Festival: Food is a Celebration!
In Ribadeo, food is more than a necessity; it’s a celebration. If you visit in August, don’t miss the Festa do Percebe in Rinlo. These small sea delicacies are the stars of the festival. In October, the Feira de Produtos da Horta arrives, where fresh products from Galicia, from cheeses to preserves, are available. It’s a great opportunity to take a piece of Galicia home with you!
Traditional Pilgrimages: Experience the Authentic Galicia!
If traditions are your thing, the Xira de Santa Cruz, held on the first Sunday of August, is an event you can’t miss. Bagpipe music, floral offerings, and a celebration of the Galician Bagpipe Day will make you feel the true spirit of Galicia. Additionally, during Pentecost, the Festa da Romaxe das Cruces commemorates the expulsion of Napoleon's troops, blending tradition, religion, and music.
